Here it is........My final Update!  (sorry if you get this twice, the images were a bit large the first time)

Jen and Liza made it home safely!  They got to fly home first class and were even able to take a nap on the plane.  They were greeted at the SF Intl Airport by many loved ones.  Everyone was thrilled to have them home.

I've attached a picture of our 3 Katrina Survivors (Bernadette, Jennifer & Liza)

They will all have plenty of stories to tell and even some pictures to share.  They are going to take the next couple of days to sleep, unwind, and get themselves used to normal life again.

Thank you to everyone for all of the love and support you have poured out to the three of them this week.  It helped them get through this very trying time.
Huge hugs and thanks to Mark, Amy and their family for providing shelter, food, showers and clothing to our gals and especially for getting them off the bus.  =)  Your generosity has been overwhelming!

Save the date for Sunday, Sept. 18th to give the gals your own personal hug and maybe buy them a hurricane ;p.  More details to follow via evite.

Signing off from Command Central,
Love,
Mabelle

Almost my last update:  (Final will be when they are back in California)

Liza and Jen finally arrived in Mesquite, TX only to be told that the bus would be taking them to Denton or Dallas.  Mark was already there waiting to pick them up, but the driver would not let them off the bus.  Talk about a painful process.  After about an hour of searching for the correct person to negotiate with, Mark was finally able to get them off the bus and into his vehicle.
They managed to get their group of 8 (& a rescued dog) off the bus.  One elderly gentleman who was in need of medical care was sent to the hospital.  5 others were dropped off at local airports.  Jen and Liza will be taken to Mark's home where they will wait for their flight home tonight.  Mark's wife kindly went shopping for clothes and shoes for the girls to change into after their long awaited showers.  They will get some food and hopefully a nap.  We can't wait to see them tonight!!!

Thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Mark Yaeger for showing your Texas hospitality to our girls!!!! We can't thank you enough for taking them in and caring for them after this long journey.

Jen's mom Sandy and I would like to thank you all for the support you have given her and Liza during this ordeal.  Especially Debbie and Mabelle for keeping us in the loop.  Even when we thought the news couldn't get any worse and then it did, at least we knew what was going on. It was very impoortant to us to know that someone else was also as concerned as we were.  We're sure we can never repay you, other than to let you know that you are always welcome at our house, and we hope to get to meet you all one day.  Agwain, our heartfelt thanks.

Hi Everyone!

YAY!  After spending 13 hours on a school bus, the girls are on their way to Mesquite, TX.  They should be arriving there in the next hour or so.  From there, Mark a co-worker from Credence will be picking them up.  He will get them food, a change of clothes and a shower at his home.  He will later take them to the airport where they will fly home to SFO.

If you happen to be around this weekend and would like to join us in welcoming them home, they arriving at 10:15pm this evening (Sat. 9/3) via American Airlines in Terminal 3 at the San Francisco International Airport.  If you want more info, let me know.

We are so excited and can't wait to see them.

Thank you everyone for your thoughts and support.  I know they appreciate it.

And the plight continues....

Since I last wrote, the girls were sitting on a bus......and now....they are still sitting on a bus.  They have moved from their original location to the New Orleans Airport and then moved again to outside the airport where they sit waiting.  They are not sure where they are being taken to and when that will happen.  I'm hoping they are taken to Baton Rouge or to Texas where someone can pick them up.  I hope that it happens soon.

Good News:  Bernadette safely landed at the San Jose airport and was greeted by her husband, son and other friends.  She got to nap in her own bed and finally slept solidly.
We're happy she is home and can't wait for Jen and Liza to be here too.

Good News! The gals were able to get on a ferry to cross the Mississippi

them and actually have a couple on board. Their destination is currently
unknown, but we will make sure that we have someone to greet them wherever
they end up. They are now far from the Convention Center madness and we are
happy and grateful for their safety. All of their new friends are aboard the
buses as well.

Hi Everyone,
Great news, the girls got on a ferry and crossed the river to the West
Bank.  There are buses there that will bring them to a destination.  I
am waiting for Jen's call to tell me that she is actually on a bus and
it's moving.  I will update again when I hear from them.  So happy that
they are away from the Convention Center Madness.

P.S.  Will update the general public group email once I confirm they are
on the bus.

Good morning,

The gals have made it through another night in the hell hole otherwise known as New Orleans.  They have plenty of water and food and had their first experience sleeping on cardboard boxes.  Surprisingly they did get some sleep last night.  They did hear and feel an explosion last night, which as we all know was from a chemical depot across the river.

The plan for the day is to stay put and still wait it out for the buses.  They are however surrounded by several cars that are in need of hotwiring ;p.  It seems that the only way out of the city right now is be vehicle, so if you know anyone who can talk people through hotwiring a car, let me know.

Will update again later on today.

One last update for the evening:

The gals and their new friends are well protected in their parking structure, there is a slight breeze, so the humidity is not killing them.  One of their new friends grew up with the police chief and other law enforcement people.  They are getting updates from them when they can.  They have water, MREs and other food.  They plan on making this their home base until they can be evacuated.  Once they find out that they are able to get on a bus, they will convoy to the bus together ensuring that everyone in their group is safe.  We hope that they can get on a bus tomorrow, but that with the amount of people needing to be evacuated odds are it won't be until Saturday.

Jen sounded very hopeful with the current situation.  She and Liza are hanging in there and feel very safe in this group.  They are located near the vicinity of the police / guard staging area.  The gentlemen in their group have been searching the area for resources for them and are very protective of everyone.  They have flashlights.  Jen has good battery life on her phone, but we are still minimizing the usage.

She will call me again in the AM with an update on how the evening went and what they anticipate their plan to be for Friday.

Happily, Bernadette will be flying home Friday morning from Atlanta.
Talk to you all tomorrow,
Mabelle

Thanks to everyone's response in trying to find someone in Baton Rouge. Your
thoughts and prayers are very important to the girls and they sure do
appreciate it.
I've recently spoken to Jen. They have found shelter near the convention
center but away from the convention center madness. They are waiting for the
buses to evacuate them out of the city. They are going to let all the crazy
violent people board buses first as to avoid confrontation. They have found
comfort with a group of other tourists in their same situation.
Unfortunately all roads into New Orleans and the nearby parishes are closed
so we are not able to send anyone in to pick them up. We are waiting
patiently for the buses to evacuate people.
Good News in MS: Bernadette has been relieved of duty and is now
caravanning with 5 cars to Alabama. From there they will head to Atlanta
where they will catch flights home.
Hopefully my next update to you all is that the girls are safely on a bus
enroute to Houston.
Thanks,

Thank you so much to everyone who offered their family and friends' homes in Houston.  Unfortunately the girls are still in New Orleans.  Their bus never arrived, so they have returned to their hotel and are waiting for word on what comes next.

Since the roads are closed we can't send anyone in to pick them up.  We have to just wait until they are evacuated with the rest of the city.  At that point depending on where they are, we may use your contacts in Houston or I may be writing to you again to see who you know in whichever city they end up.

Please keep them in your thoughts and I will update you when I have more information.

Bad news kids.  Unfortunately our girls were not able to get on the bus.  It never showed up.  They think it was used for emergency use.  They have gone back to the hotel.  It's probably safest for them at this point.

Kelly, thank you so much for contacting Toby for them.

They are supposed to be evacuating the whole city, so at some point they will get out of there.  Unfortunately because the roads are closed and they are evacuating we can't have anyone go in and get them.
Since Debbie will be out of the office the remainder of the week, I will be their main point of contact and will work on flights, etc.

We have several contacts now in the Houston area offering their help to the girls if and when they get there.  I'll wait to see where they end up getting evacuated to and if it's somewhere different, I'll put out the same call to see who we know there.

I still have a separate email going to people who don't need to know all these details.
